Ubigi eSIM: plans, prices and limits

Ubigi sells prepaid travel data through a reusable eSIM. You can pick a fixed data allowance or an unlimited plan, but unlimited does not mean full speed throughout. Its fair use policy reduces speeds after a usage threshold.

For your decision, compare the destination, allowance and validity together. Ubigi's prices vary across countries, and some allowances expire sooner than others. The app supports recharges, while the service does not include a phone number, voice calls or SMS.

What Ubigi sells

Ubigi describes its service as prepaid cellular data: an allowance you can use for a set duration. Its destination listings include fixed-allowance and unlimited options. On its USA page, Ubigi describes a one-off plan as a one-time purchase for travelers.

Ubigi's assistance page distinguishes one-off and recurring data plans. The provider pages we checked do not state monthly or annual allowances, prices, or renewal terms. That leaves less detail for comparing an ongoing subscription with a one-off purchase. Ubigi's conditions say you have no contract-duration commitment and can cancel your subscription at any time.

Ubigi says its eSIM is reusable in 200+ destinations. Each order can contain only one eSIM data plan; adding another removes the current plan from the order. This is an ordering restriction, not a statement that buying a plan deletes an active allowance.

Prices on the destinations we track

Our price table shows substantial country-to-country differences, checked Oct 2026. Ubigi lists 25 GB for 30 days at US$19.00 in Italy, US$22.00 in Greece and US$32.00 in Japan. The same allowance and validity do not carry the same price.

The smaller allowances show a similar spread. Ubigi lists 10 GB for 30 days at US$11.00 in Thailand and US$24.00 in Mexico. Watch the expiry as well as the amount: Ubigi's Turkey option gives you 10 GB for 7 days at US$11.00, rather than Thailand's longer validity.

Unlimited costs more than a fixed allowance in the examples shown. In South Korea, Ubigi lists 10 GB for 30 days at US$14.00, versus unlimited data for 30 days at US$49.00. Its unlimited options also vary by duration: South Korea costs US$25.00 for 7 days and US$34.00 for 15 days. Pick the duration you need, then weigh the extra cost against the fair use limits.

Fair use, speed and hotspot

Ubigi says its unlimited plans provide full-speed data up to a threshold, then temporarily reduce your connection speed. You remain connected after reaching that threshold. The trade-off is continued data access at a lower speed, not unlimited full-speed usage.

For 7-day country plans, Ubigi states that speeds drop to 2 Mbps after around 15 GB to 25 GB, depending on the country. For 30-day regional plans, Ubigi states a reduction to 2 Mbps after 60 GB, with a country-dependent qualification. Do not apply that regional threshold to a country plan.

The provider pages we checked do not state specific thresholds for the listed 15-day or 30-day country unlimited options. Check the chosen plan's fair use details before relying on it for heavy data use.

Ubigi supports tethering and publishes hotspot instructions for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Its Android guidance says multiple devices can connect simultaneously. Hotspot support is useful if you want to share your connection, but it does not remove the unlimited plan's speed restrictions.

App, setup and support

Check your device before purchasing. Ubigi tells you to dial *#06#: if an EID appears, it identifies the device as eSIM-compatible. Ubigi also advises checking your carrier lock. Compatibility and carrier-lock checks are separate parts of the purchase decision.

Ubigi describes its eSIM as something you install once and reuse. Its USA plan page says Smartstart begins plan activation upon arrival at the destination. That page also says you can recharge in the app without Wi-Fi or data credits. Ubigi calls the app essential for checking usage.

Technical support uses an online contact form, with a field for your eSIM profile or SIM card number. Ubigi's help center also provides getting-started and troubleshooting resources. For a refund request, Ubigi asks you to submit the online form with your payment receipt or confirmation within 14 business days of purchase or the technical issue.

Who Ubigi suits

Ubigi is worth comparing if you want prepaid data, a reusable eSIM and app-based recharges. Its fixed allowances give you a stated amount and expiry to compare. Its hotspot support also makes it an option if you need to share data with another device.

The trade-offs are clearer if you separate data access from speed and phone service. Unlimited plans have fair use slowdowns. Ubigi provides no phone number, voice calling or SMS, including voice calls to emergency numbers. Refund eligibility also depends on purchase type and usage, so check compatibility and the refund conditions before you scan or start using the plan.

Questions travelers ask

Is Ubigi unlimited data really unlimited?

Ubigi says you stay connected after its fair use threshold, but at a reduced speed. For 7-day country plans, Ubigi states a reduction to 2 Mbps after around 15 GB to 25 GB, depending on the country. Unlimited is not a promise of full speed throughout.

Can I use a hotspot with Ubigi?

Yes. Ubigi publishes tethering instructions for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Its Android instructions say to make the Ubigi eSIM active and select it for mobile data before sharing the connection.

Does Ubigi give me a phone number?

No. Ubigi's conditions say the service does not provide a phone number, voice calls or SMS. It supplies cellular data for connecting your device to the internet.

Can I get a refund for an unused Ubigi plan?

Eligibility depends on the purchase. Ubigi's conditions say a website-purchased preloaded eSIM can be refunded only before you scan the emailed QR code. Its refund FAQ describes eligibility in terms of unused data. Recharges cannot be refunded once used. These descriptions differ, so do not assume an unused plan is automatically refundable.
