Spain eSIM plans compared

Pick a Spain eSIM by matching its validity to your travel dates, then compare the data allowance, hotspot rules, and named networks. Our price table covers Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, and Yesim, with prices checked Oct 2026. A lower starting price does not tell you how much data you get or how long it lasts.

Your route matters too. Saily says its Spain plan does not work in Portugal, while its regional Europe plan covers both countries. If you are crossing borders, compare regional coverage before choosing a Spain-only plan.

Fair-use notes, quoted from provider pages

  • Holafly: "In rare cases, yes." source
  • Holafly: "Network operators use an international measure called the Fair Usage Policy." source
  • Nomad: "Please check your plan details for specific network availability and speed, as coverage may vary by location and time of day." source
  • Yesim: "Data speed may be limited in accordance with the network operator's Fair Usage Policy" source
  • Yesim: "While such a data plan offers unlimited high-speed data usage, you should be aware that your data speed will not always be at its maximum. To prevent network congestion, most mobile service providers implement a daily usage limit. Once this limit has been reached, your data speed will be reduced, or "throttled."" source

Which plan size fits your trip to Spain

Start with the days you need coverage, then choose an allowance that fits your expected use. Yesim lists 1 GB for 30 days at US$3.00, the lowest entry price in our Spain table. Saily lists 1 GB for 7 days at US$3.99. The allowance is the same, but the validity is not.

For a larger allowance, Saily lists 10 GB for 30 days at US$15.99. Yesim lists 30 GB for 30 days at US$33.60, or US$1.12 per GB, the lowest price per GB in our table. That lower unit price only helps if you need the larger allowance; compare the total spend as well.

For a trip beyond Spain, Airalo also lists a European Union and United Kingdom option at $4.00 USD. The provider page we checked does not state that option's allowance or validity. Use it as a reason to compare regional plans, not as a like-for-like alternative to the Spain plans.

Unlimited plans and their limits

Compare unlimited plans by duration and restrictions, not the label alone. Airalo lists 7 days at US$23.50, compared with Holafly's US$24.50. For 30 days, Airalo lists US$63.00 and Holafly US$66.50. Airalo costs less in these comparisons, but price does not answer the hotspot or fair-use questions.

Holafly says network operators can temporarily reduce speeds under a Fair Usage Policy. It says this restriction lasts no more than 1 day and resets the following day. Yesim also warns that unlimited-plan speeds can be reduced after a daily usage limit.

If you need to share data, Holafly limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB per day. Saily states no hotspot-sharing limit, though its listed Spain plans have fixed data allowances. Yesim says hotspot availability depends on the operator. For laptop use, these terms matter alongside the data allowance.

Networks and coverage

The Spain provider pages name these networks. Use the names to compare your options, then read the details for the plan you select.

  • Airalo names Orange and identifies it as the primary network the eSIM uses.
  • Holafly names Orange, Movistar, Vodafone España, and Yoigo.
  • Nomad names Movistar and Orange.

Before you fly

Check your phone's eSIM compatibility before buying, then separate installation from the start of plan validity. Airalo says you can install in advance with a stable internet connection. In the coverage area, turn the eSIM on and select it for data.

Saily says its plan activates automatically when you arrive in Spain, provided the eSIM is turned on and roaming is enabled. Saily gives plans a 180-day activation period. Holafly says its plan begins when you arrive at your destination and turn on the eSIM.

Nomad lets you buy and install ahead of travel, but requires activation within 60 days of purchase; after that, the plan activates automatically and expiry starts. Some Nomad eSIMs require manual activation, so read your installation email. Yesim lists activation within 180 days and says validity begins on connection to a compatible network.

Check how you can add data before departure. Airalo offers top-ups where available. Saily lets you top up in its app, with the new plan starting when the current plan runs out. Nomad says an add-on starts when the initial plan expires. Holafly's Spain unlimited plan has no top-ups.

Questions travelers ask

Will a Spain eSIM work in Portugal?

Saily says its Spain plan works only in Spain, not Portugal. It offers a regional Europe plan covering both countries. For a cross-border trip, compare the regional plan's country coverage rather than assuming a Spain-only plan follows you.

Does a Spain eSIM cover the Canary Islands?

Holafly explicitly includes mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands without switching eSIMs. Nomad warns that coverage may exclude overseas territories and asks you to confirm with customer support before buying.

Can I use a Spain eSIM as a hotspot?

Holafly allows 1 GB of hotspot sharing per day. Saily states no hotspot-sharing limit, but your plan's data allowance still matters. Yesim says hotspot availability depends on the operator.

Will I get fast data everywhere in Spain?

Nomad says network availability and speed vary by location and time of day, so check your plan details. Holafly advertises 5G where available, plus 4G and LTE, and says coverage can be weaker or unstable in mountains. Saily says coverage quality depends on local providers.

Does Holafly's Spain eSIM include calls and texts?

Holafly says its Spain eSIM is cellular-data-only. It says you can use WhatsApp for calls and messages, rather than relying on an included cellular calling or texting service.
